Alcohol campaigns-Effective enough????

save your child from alcohol abuse.source:www.google.com
We have seen a number of alcohol campaigns, what is believed to be "Good Marketing" campaigns, on a daily basis, from all different media platforms, from our traditional media to our social media. media has along term effect on people's behaviour. My question is do the organisation who sell alcohol take into account how their messages omit important information? From what i know, for a successful campaign the concept of " Integrated Marketing Communication" has to be a priority. where an organisation should have the knowledge that their message will reach a largely diverse audience.

My main concern is that with all the campaigns, messages, adverts and so forth of alcohol, The dangers of consuming alcohol during pregnancy is hardly highlighted, the campaigns are all about promoting their products, are they saying their product comes before their consumers?15 percent of women consume alcohol during pregnancy www.recoveryzone.org/docs/articles/pregnant-women-drinking.html. This clearly indicates how the alcohol campaigns have forgotten about the consumer knowledge. Pregnant women Can suffer the following if they continue to consume alcohol

  • Foetus cancer
  • Severe developmental or other problem in a child
  • Health complications during birth
Organisation should adopt a good IMC(Integrated Marketing Communication) so that they can be a position to create awareness that caters for everyone.because IMC maintains that targeted public range from people who use,buy and do not show interest in their product, this gives public's a great deal of product knowledge.

    1. various workshops are being held to try and create awareness about the issue but the biggest problems lies with the organisation who sell alcohol beacuse they do not help these other organasition who are trying to put an end to this issue

    1. it is not only about the choice of an individual even brand names are at risk because the more women consume alcohol the more the rate of children born with FAS known as fuetal alcohol syndrome, this will create a negative public opinion about the brands which this women consume during pregnancy

  5. Yes i agree that not many Campaigns are being done about women consuming alcohol during pregnancy, but still lets not only put the blame on the Alcohol sellers because after all a lot of women who drink whilst they are preegnant are very much aware that what they are doing is not right for their babies yet they continue drinking, just like the women who were shown on SABC1 show "CUTTING EDGE".

    1. the biggest concerns lies with the brand of the alcohol sellers, imagine if the "Not for sale to the person under the age of 18" saying was sang and emphasised every dat like "Not healthy for pregnant women"

  6. This is a major issue regarding alcohol because liqour stores are selling alcohol to everyone as long your are over the age of 18.This causing many problems because liqour stores owners are unaware that they are selling alcohol to pregnat women.I think this issue have to be taken into account to make sure that no more alcohol should be sold to pregnant women.

    1. precisly this will have to start with the organistion who sell the product by simply creating awareness to the public about the the danger of alcohol during prenancy this will then ring and a bell and make the matter serious to liqour stores, tarvens etc

  7. SAB does not care who takes the alcohol they onli promote their product. As for pregnant woman they know very well that they shoud not consume alcohol, and if they do they will get children with FAS so whats with the ignorancy????

  8. well thought thobeka but my main argument lies to educating these people with the dangers of taking alcohol and the poor marketing communication of SAB which might cost them thier brand position

  9. advertisements seem as there are not enough to pass the message,i think PR people (beside adverting) there are many ways of pesuading/convincing the public especially pregnent women to avoid this habit.

  11. Its going to take time for these campaigns to be taken seriously and effective, problem for me is that alcohol is an addiction and it takes time to recover from the addiction. A producer does not care about the next person they only care about making the profits so its up to a person to take charge of his or her life. I mean we all know that alcohol is bad but we still taking it wow!!
