South Africa has a firm constitution in terms of gender rights and equality, all it needs its to be championed. With many organisation and campaigns which exist in S.A to help fight for the rights of women who have been abused, sexually, physicaly and so forth. One of three of the 4000 women questioned by the community of information,Empowermnt and transperency said they have been raped in the past year,sourcewww.wikipedia/articles.com these incluedes campaings like:
- slutwalk
- lesbians and gay parade
- Powa (organisation)

As women we rely on the ANC women leauge to be the forefront of fighting such incidents and putting a stop in them,In march, there was a march organised by ANC women league in johannesburg which the laegue presented the memorandum to to the renewal of women rights to end sexual harrasment of women in public, this march was driven by the victimised two teenage girls at johhanesburg noord street taxi rank in january.yhis march was socially accepted version of slutwalk.
The big question is why now ANC women league, there has been several accusation against the league as muted response in issues that affect women, this was questionable when the league was seen in several engagement which was not very good from women point of view like:
- in 2008 succesion battle between Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma, the women's league sided with Zuma. A man with questionable gender credetials that do not stand up to proggressive standards
- in 2006 Zuma was accused of raping a family friend,Zuma claimed they had consesual sex and beleived she had sent him a sexual signals by wearig a short skirt. sourcehttp://www.mail&gurdianonline.com/
but the fact is its never to late to make a change, for the fact that the womens league is standing up it means someones life is gonna change or be saved. the womens league is under the leader ship of jacob Zuma it might be hard for them to stand up against him as it said that the man is the haed and needs to be respected
ReplyDeleteall im trying to say is that if the leauge as an authorised body and a laegue which is headed by women who share the same interest as women would have taken such issues seriously a changed would have been made by now....are trying to say that women should be follows whilst men should be heads??? and do whatever they please on women interests
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with you kgauhelo as such incidents have occured several times and where has the womans league been and what have they being say.Clearly they have been turning a blind eye to such issues i guess people act only when the situation is faced with them and not the next person.
ReplyDeletetrue koketso our leaders have failred us in many ways, if it was about some political leader and corruption immediate response would have been taken and libareted but because it is a cry of women than none is beng said
DeleteTrue that Koki.but if they want to stop this madness where are they going to start?
ReplyDeletethobeka they can start by fighting for the worth of women in S.A in the parliament and try to challenge the constituion in a sense whereby they suggest other strict laws against gender equality
DeleteIt is good for women to fight for their rights so that they can make changes. This is a serious issue facing South African women and this issue need to be taken into account.
ReplyDeletemarvee it is aseriuos issue to us the society but not that serious to our leaders it is evident enough that they really do not care,if you look at their response
DeleteI have to say that i am very impressed with your TOPIC "it is a DRESS not a YES". the Womens league did take a long time to make some change but lets be grateful that they atleast have waken up and are willing to help us as Women to fight this whole thing. it is sad and embarrasing that even the PRESIDENT is involved in such disgrace, what a negative publicity for our country.
ReplyDeletethat is so true siphokazi it really sadden me to think that even our president has no respect towards women
DeleteThank you for raising this point because I have always argued the fact that the ANC doesn't pay a lot of attention to the fact that we are supposed to be living in a liberated country and yet so many human rights are being violated everyday! Especially of women and children!
ReplyDeletei think it is about time those rights are renewed and practised so that we can be able to say we live in a democratic country
DeleteIt is just too surprising what our society has turned into...we are saying that we are a democratic country but we are simply not walking in that path. Men need to stop what they are doing and same goes for us the women of this country, we should respect ourselves. Believe it or not women have power.
ReplyDeletecould have not said it any better women are in power but our contry leaders do not support us
