the downside of social media

our reputations in social media as women is ignored
Social Media has been one of the richest form of communication in the new democratic South Africa, it is used by organisations and individuals for various reasons, it can be brand awareness, entertainment, communication the list is endless. Twitter, Facebook, Mxit, whatsapp, and many more are the most frequently used platforms in the universe.

Now i have been asking myself how can something so good and effective turn to something that takes away the lives of our fellow sisters, leave sisters with scares, tears and fear. This brings me to the case of the facebook rapist Thabo Bester who have been reportedly with Case of rape in facebook, he faces the charges of murder and rape.

Are social media platforms safe for women? can we as women be able to share photos of us anymore? in the public relations field social media takes priority in maintaining the brand of organisation, how are we as women going to interact with these organisations if our presence in social media is being threatened.

  1. Social media can be the best thing to keep you in tact with the outside world but can also bring the outside world into your life. If people are not careful about who they chat to and what details they give it can give problems.

  2. its always up to you, to maintain your own safety, i doubt that theres no other protection that could be offered, no matter how safe they are, there will always be someone who agrees to meet with this rapist and they fall prey to them and get swapped away by there empty promises, so whoss to blame here, i ask you this question?

    1. not everyone will agree with that, look at the nohle tweeter stunt, she does not really know the value of social media and end up saying things that could hurt people is much as the same as those who will go online just to get another rape victim
