beauty-women perspective

www.beautyblank.com
last week as i was watching a documentary on SABC2 titled "the beauty". it has come to my attention how the society defines beauty in relations to the physical appearance of a woman. Most men believe in certain aspects of a women parts that makes a women beautiful. The comments made by men in the yahoo article related to style and beauty,Http://www.answers.yahoo.com%3eother-style%20&%20beauty/ includes comment such such as:
  • "Big breast"
  • "Portable behind"
  • "Big brown hazel eyes"

Men are not the only driving forces behind the reason women change their looks everyday, our media also plays a huge impact in the many different definitions of "Beauty" in relation to the physical appearance of a woman, an article on http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ it claims that " a person sees up to eight thousands ads each and everyday, from television to billboards" this goes to show how the media influences on the myths accepted by society about beauty these is evident on ads such as:
  • herbex "hlasela mafutha for everyone" an ad which aims at influencing over sizes women to loose weight in order for them to feel good about themselves
  • elvis tribut artist wigs-http://www.tributer.com/
  •   companies such as Avon, with women products ranging from skin care to make up
these are one of the infinite driving forces that has put an enormous pressure on women ant their image. My underlying question is, is it necessary for the society to define beauty in accordance to the image of a women. What happened to simple quotes like "beauty lies beneath the eyes of the beholder" and "the real beauty lies within". Does the society find women as the precise example for defining beauty?

MIRROR MIRROR:YES IT IS YOU

http://www.breakfree.com/
A mirror has always been a women's all times best friend, many females spent more time in the mirror than men. a girl will have a super sized mirror that reflects her entire body, situated on different rooms in thier houses, a women will make it a point that every time she passes the mirror point she stops and stare at herself.

MIRROR AND BREAST CANCER

Once a women is being diagnosed with breast cancer, she spent most of her time running away from any piece that will reflect herself, because she fears what she might see on the miirror. she will stare at the mirror and will start imagining herself without breast, and these thoughts might rise feelings such as:

  • being less of a women
  • hopelessness
  • suicide
Women living with breast cancer should just accept the physical changes that comes with living with cancer,it is OK to befriend a mirror, because the more you see the changes the more you start to accept, your current image.

OVERCOME THE FEAR

people living with the breat cancer can engage in my many activites that will help them regain thier confindence and accept thier current physical image, they can do things such as

DO NOT LET YOUR HEALTH CONDITIONS INHABIT YOU FROM BEING WHAT YOU WANT TO BE!!!

self esteem versus contraceptive

picture adapted from:www.indiamart.com
for many young women contraceptives has always been the loophole from unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted disease and HIV/AIDS.Parents also encourage the use of contraceptives on their teenage daughters especially when they reach puberty stage, the contraceptives can range from, the pill, injection, condoms etc.it depends on what your doctors prescribe for an individual.

picture adapted from:www.indiamart.com
the biggest question now arise, most of the women who use contraceptives especially the injection and the pill have complained about how these contraceptives got them to gain weight.DR Anne Szavewski in may 2011 at the GP meeting said "Being overweight the single most significant risk factor for thrombosis on the pill, the pill taking women whose body mass index (BMI) is 30 or more had 24 times the average risk of thrombosis",http://www.net doctor.co.uk.We living a world were it is believed that if you are a young women you need to look in a certain way, which is slim and sexy, how are you gonna look like that way if you taking contraceptives, this will affect your self esteem,it will kill your confidence especially if you are around your peers,it will affect your self image. Once a young person goes through the problem of acceptance it becomes very hard for them to belong and have positive attitude about themselves
it is advisable that before you can start with your contraceptives you should ensure that you are aware of the risk factors that you might experience, you can also exercise, drink water, eat healthy to avoid being overweight and killing your confidence. there organisations that helps with when you want to regain your self esteem you can visit them, organisations such as love life, ekuphulweni, youth centres.Let us not gamble with our bodies.
