beauty-women perspective

www.beautyblank.com
last week as i was watching a documentary on SABC2 titled "the beauty". it has come to my attention how the society defines beauty in relations to the physical appearance of a woman. Most men believe in certain aspects of a women parts that makes a women beautiful. The comments made by men in the yahoo article related to style and beauty,Http://www.answers.yahoo.com%3eother-style%20&%20beauty/ includes comment such such as:
  • "Big breast"
  • "Portable behind"
  • "Big brown hazel eyes"

Men are not the only driving forces behind the reason women change their looks everyday, our media also plays a huge impact in the many different definitions of "Beauty" in relation to the physical appearance of a woman, an article on http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ it claims that " a person sees up to eight thousands ads each and everyday, from television to billboards" this goes to show how the media influences on the myths accepted by society about beauty these is evident on ads such as:
  • herbex "hlasela mafutha for everyone" an ad which aims at influencing over sizes women to loose weight in order for them to feel good about themselves
  • elvis tribut artist wigs-http://www.tributer.com/
  •   companies such as Avon, with women products ranging from skin care to make up
these are one of the infinite driving forces that has put an enormous pressure on women ant their image. My underlying question is, is it necessary for the society to define beauty in accordance to the image of a women. What happened to simple quotes like "beauty lies beneath the eyes of the beholder" and "the real beauty lies within". Does the society find women as the precise example for defining beauty?

  1. kgauhelo, if we can look on the media's side on influancing us as communities in beauty products, you'll see that most of us still believe that what ever is bieng said by the ads its true and can be trusted...this also changed our minds as men on what type of a woman we want, in ourdays there are few men who want oversized woman...why? because of these TV ads.

  3. most adverts are targeted at women because as women we care alot about image than man. i think as women we also put ourselves under pressure because we do not accept the fact that we all different and we keep on comparing our selves with slimmer people. i have realised that beauty does not mean u have to be a certain size, skin colour or wear trendy cloths but beauty is being comfartable and confident with your self.

  5. Media did realize how much time we spend on TV, so they take that advantage, if you look those womens who advertise those product there way they are beautifull, it shows that there is some sort of graphics inside. THE Fact IS you can not buy beauty you born with.

  6. the media always has a way of making us do or buy what they are offering but if you believe and trust in yourself and your beauty you will not be easily influenced.because of how the media potrays real beauty of a women we tend to do things like surgeries trying to fit in and sometimes even loose our lives.be proud of who you are and what you look like because there is only one you.
